State of Disrepair
August 25, 2003 | 8 Comments
So everyone complains about the conditions of Missouri roads, well The Star just ran a two-part series on the mess. It examines reasons why the state’s roads are among the worst in the nation, and suggests some possible remedies. Basically everything boils down to two big problems 1) too little money and 2) too little trust.
MoDOT doesn’t have enough money to maintain the sprawling road system, and voters don’t trust MoDOT enough to raise their taxes. It’s a terrible cycle that keeps feeding on itself. MoDOT needs to show it can spend money responsibly and effectivelly, and the voters need to step up to the plate and provide a lot more money for the road system.

Till we watch the last low star, Let us love and let us take Of each other all we are. On some morning with that star One of us shall lie awake, Lonely for the other’s sake.
Because of what you have done the heavens have become part of man’s world… For one priceless moment in the whole history of man all of the people on this Earth are truly one.
This is my chosen fast: to loosen all the bonds that bind men unfairly, to let the oppressed go free, to break every yoke. Share your bread with the hungry, take the homeless into your home. Clothe the naked when you see him, do not turn away from people in need. . . . If you remove from your midst the yoke of oppression, the finger of scorn and the tongue of malice, if you put yourself out for the hungry and relieve the wretched, then shall your light shine in darkness, and your gloom shall be as noonday. . . . And you shall be like a watered garden, like a never-failing spring. And you shall rebuild ancient ruins, restoring old foundations. You shall be known as the rebuilder of broken walls, the restorer of dwelling places.
