Police Academy, North vs. South?

September 16, 2003 |

Three years after voters approved a tax increase for more police officers, a second north side precinct station, and a new police academy, the city council has yet choose a location for the new academy or the new northern patrol station. The tax increase was promoted with the argument that there was a dire need for both facilities, so it is interesting that the city seems to be taking so long to follow through on construction. Sites on both sides of the river are under consideration, but it looks like some Northlanders are approaching the process as a north vs. south contest. They believe they were promised that the academy would be built north of the river, but no such promise seems to have been made. Ugh, this divisive crap could be a more frequent trend in the future as the Northland continues to grow and some of its leaders hang on to long-festering feelings of neglect and inferiority.
