Three lumberyard fires in one week

fireLast week arsonists set fire to two Clay County lumberyards in Kearney and Mosby. Then Saturday night the 100+ year-old Schutte Lumber Co. on Southwest Boulevard went up in a spectacular blaze, leavng a smoky haze over a four mile stretch from Downtown to the Plaza. Arson is suspected in the Schutte blaze, and the KCFD has called in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms to assist in the investigation.

    Sunday morning there was a thick brown layer of haze all the way from Downtown to the Plaza. It was like fog, but brown and smelly.

    Being half drunk and attempting to get home I thought I was hallucinating. it was not pretty looking.
