5th District U.S. House race gets crowded

Popular, yet beleaguered, U.S. Representative Karen McCarthy is facing her most serious re-election challenge in years. Two fellow Democrats smell blood and are challenging her in the primary, while two Republicans are vying for their party’s nomination for a House seat in this mostly Democratic 5th District.

(Missouri’s 5th House District covers most of the southern half of the metro area – including southern Kansas City, Independence, Raytown, and all but extreme eastern Jackson County.
