NorthGuy, I understand your situation very well. We also just recently got out of the Shawnee Mission district. We were buying a new house and decided it would be a better investment to buy in Lee's Summit, where the school district has much better prospects for the future. Shawnee Mission has been great in the past, but it seems about ready to start going down the tubes.

It's a shame that Kansas is letting their once-great schools decline. I grew up in the Shawnee Mission school district and had an excellent education. But all of the budget cutbacks and school closures in that district recently prompted us to look for a school system with better prospects for the future. We didn't want to continue investing in a sinking school district.

So we recently moved to the Northland and have been very happy in the Park Hill school district. They are also having budget problems like everyone else, but overall the district is growing and Missouri doesn't seem as hostile to Park Hill as Kansas is towards the Johnson County districts.
