Democratic primary focus shifts to Missouri
January 28, 2004 | 1 Comment
With U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt out of the race, candidates are scrambling for position in the newly-competitive Missouri primary on February 3rd. John Edwards picked up endorsements from 5th District Councilman Terry Riley, former Kansas City Mayor the Rev. Emmanuel Cleaver, Jackson County Executive Katheryn Shields, U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton of west-central Missouri, and Jackson County Legislature Chairman Scott Burnett. Meanwhile, John Kerry picks up former U.S. Rep. Alan Wheat, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, and former US Senators Jean Carnahan and Thomas Eagleton. A St. Louis debate is already scheduled for Monday, and Jackson County Dems are trying to setup a Kansas City debate on Saturday. A poll from KMBC-TV 9 shows 35% of Missouri Democrats are still undecided, with 25% supporting John Kerry.
