Kansas Senate race

January 15, 2004 |

Kansas Democrats now have their first candidate looking to challenge ultra-conservative Republican Sam Brownback for his U.S. Senate seat. Joan Ruff is a moderate from Johnson County. No word on her chances in the solidly Republican state - 1932 was the last time a Democrat represented Kansas in the Senate.

The Democrats don’t have a chance in this race. Kansas is a radical conservative state, even a moderate Democrat doesn’t stand a chance. Plus 95% of the state will be reluctant to vote for anyone from Johnson County.

She has a good chance of doing well in Johnson County. Johnson
Co is losing jobs fast, partly because of Offshore Outsourcing and
similar management policies. A lot of Kansans are concerned about the
Federal Deficit, which is expected to reach $500 Billion this year.
The No Child Left Behind law is getting a lot of negative attention
in Johnson Co. I can’t say much about the whole state. Maybe
Democrats need to work together more effectively. We’ll have to work
    on that.

    around here.

Johnson county had a net gain in jobs in ‘03, No Child is primarily opposed by teachers who don’t
like being measured objectively, but the defecit is a major problem, Dems. blame tax cuts, but the
CBO will tell you the tax cuts implemented so far could only account for 25% of the problem and
most people know dems. would spend just as much if not more, at the end of the day Brownback wins
    easily
