The Kansas City StarActivist Clay Chastain said today he was considering running for Congress in Missouri’s 5th District as a Republican.
In a telephone call from his home in Tennessee to the Tom Becka radio show on KMBZ 980, Chastain said he wanted to gauge support for his candidacy and would decide by the filing deadline on Tuesday.
“I’m inclined to run,” Chastain said.
Chastain said he would set up temporary residence in Kansas City and would move here if elected.
Chastain said he was a centrist and would “try to tap into what I think is a large constituency of votes out there not aligned with the extremes of both parties.”
In recent years, Chastain has been behind several initiative petitions to bring light rail to Kansas City. Voters rejected all of them.
Congresswoman Karen McCarthy is not running for reelection in the 5th District.
