Kansas State Senator David Adkins, Republican from Leawood, has decided not to seek re-election. Adkins was one of the few moderates left in the Kansas Republican Party, usually taking opposite positions on issues like abortion, gay marriage, concealed weapons, and school taxes. His district includes most of Northeastern Johnson County, and Adkins chairmanship of the Ways and Means committee gave him a lot of influence on behalf of the Kansas side of the metro area.
