metal plateResidents of KCMO are well aware of the rough condition of many streets in the city, even though the Public Works department insists that they are generaly in good shape. Thankfully City Auditor Mark Funkhoser disgarees and decided to do a performance audit to see exactly what shape the streets are in.

The results show that Public Works is doing a poor job of measuring the condition of streets, failing to track the use of the dreaded metal plates, and failing to monitor the utilities who dig up streets. Appareantly the department only considers the age and visual appearance of a street when calculating its condition - they don’t actually measure how bumpy it is. Streets are one of the top complaints of citizens, so it’s obvious that there is pretty big disconnect between them and the Public Works Department.

Don’t forget you can report potholes, metal plates, etc. to the city’s Action Center.
