Battle of Westport, 2004

August 19, 2004 |

After two relatively scandal-free years, the KCMO School District is back in the spotlight with a battle for control of Westport Middle and High charter schools. The district is trying to cancel the charter and assume direct control of the schools after claiming mismanagement by the private company. After a favorable appeals court ruling earlier this, the district took possession and changed the locks on the building. Today the Missouri Supreme Court overruled the lower court and put the charter board back in power, pending a full hearing of the case.

The school district needs to stay out of things and mind their own
business. They can’t take care of the schools they have now.
