Plague of Plates
August 30, 2004 |
A couple weeks ago BlogKC mentioned the audit faulting the city for sugar-coating the condition of city streets. This past Sunday the Star follows up on that audit with an examination of just how out of control the metal problem has become.
- Plates are meant for short-term patches but are being used in lieu of long-term repairs.
- City Hall has no mechanism for tracking or even counting the hundreds of plates scattered across the city.
- The city is breaking it’s own laws meant to minimize the impact of plates and how long they can be left in place.
- City departments like Public Works and Water Services are failing communicate with each other about their use of plates.
