Arenas for you, arenas for me

With the huge Sprint Sextel Center announced for Downtown, Overland Park and Ooooolathe are currently in a race to respond with the region’s first suburban arena. Yesterday the OP moved ahead with news that the Comets and Knights will move there from Kemper, if the new arena gets built. The city also signed up strip mall builder RED Development, the company that hinted at Hard Rock Cafe next to the Kansas Speedway but delivered an Applebees and a Sonic. Both of the affluent cities are still trying to get massive tax subsidies from the state.

Kansas City is vying for NASCAR Hall of Fame
KC is certainly not a historic hotbed for racing, but it is bidding for a NASCAR Hall of Fame that the ulta-successful motorsports organization to seeking to create. Other cities in the running include Charlotte, NC, Daytona, FL, and Atlanta, GA.
