San Francisco Examiner coming to KC?

The Biz Journal is reporting that the owner of the San Francisco Examiner has trademarked the name “Kansas City Examiner” for a future newspaper, just has it has done in 60 other cities across the country. Although there are currently no actual plans to launch a new newspaper. The Examiner is owned by Phil Anschutz, the conservative Denver billionaire who is also partnering with the city to build and operate the Sprint Center arena.

It remains to be seen if this new trademark could conflict with the Independence Examiner, which already covers a big chunk of the metro area with it’s daily newspaper in eastern Jackson County.
