Editing you can’t count on

January 13, 2005 |

KMBC-TV 9’s slogan is “coverage you can count on” - but appareantly that doesn’t apply to their editing. In recent days the station’s reporters have made a couple of embarrasing gaffes. First a report on ice falling from the KCTV-5 tower referred to the tower as both the “Channel 9 tower” and the “KCPT tower.” While the latter can be forgiven since the tower is right next to the KCPT offices, one would think reporters should know where their own station’s tower is located.

The second oops occured just tonight when Peggy Breit referred Matt Blunt, Missouri’s new Republican governor, as Mel Blunt. Of course Mel is actually the first name of the late Governor Carnahan, a popular and much-respected Democrat.

Heh, I have to wonder about WDAF Channel 4 regarding their editing… But KMBC takes the cake. I just laugh at channel 4’s oops. It’s mostly silly spelling errors with them.
