Stupid idea of the week

January 22, 2005 |

KCMO LogoConvention center officials and Councilman Chuck Eddy are pushing the stupid idea of pushing food carts further away from Bartle Hall and possibly creating no-vendor zones in other areas of Downtown. This is counter to all of the work being done to increase street life Downtown. If anything, we need more vendors to enliven the concrete wasteland around the convention center and Barney Allis Plaza.

Oscar McGaskey (email), director of the convention center, pulled this good one out of his ass: You don’t see this kind of activity in other cities. It’s an image thing. Here at BlogKC, we’re hard-pressed to think a big city that doesn’t have street vendors.

I wonder what “big cities” they are referring to: Kalmazoo?

What is it about a market driven environment
(that’s called capitalism Chuck)does Dr. Eddy NOT understand. For many years the only ones willing to ply the streets of downtown were the cart vendors. Hell, they ought to get a break for keepin the streets of downtown alive - but instead - just like always - City Council gives em the shaft.
WHat is it about cigarettes and street vendors do ya just not like there Doc?
