Kansas - as big bigoted as you think.
February 3, 2005 |
Kansans are set to vote on becoming the fourteenth state to jump on the hate bandwagon that started in Missouri back in August 2004. The state legislature has approved a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and civil unions, sending it to the voters for approval on April 5th.
KC Star: Gay marriage ban on amendment.

Hate still wins votes
Proving what Hitler learned nearly three quarters of a century earlier, hate still wins votes. The new Kansas legislature has made one of their first priorities to not be outdone by the bigotry of its Missouri neighbors and has put an ammendment to it…
Hah…they obviously weren’t thinking ahead when they picked this slogan. Your alteration is perfect, though. I can’t count the number of times I’ve wanted to lie about where I’m from because I’m ashamed of my state. With the whole evolution debacle a few years back, this fun little gay-marriage ban proposed and the Chiefs, we’re winners!
Fred Phelps wins.
Um, Christy, the Chiefs are in Missouri, not Kansas…
I can understand when people on the coasts get confused about KC being in Missouri instead of Kansas, but it really bugs me when the locals don’t understand. Especially when they make a statement about Kansas like they are speaking for everyone in KC, even though most of the metro area isn’t in Kansas.
Nice photo shop work! Did you do it yourself? The new state slogan is so fun to riff on. Too bad the politicos in KS are coming up with one opportunity after another to elicit jibes at the expense of the state. However, I don’t hold much of what happens politically against residents of Kansas. Most of them (at least half) don’t vote anyway. Which I guess is guilt by apathy but then I guess we’re all guilty of that one way or another.
Hey, I heard someone was selling the “as bigoted as you think” bumper stickers…Where do I get one?
Anyone who puts that bumper sticker on their car is a moron. How can you lash back against “bigotry” with more stereotypes; that is, the implication that the Kansas populous is bigoted. That’s like going to war for peace (sound familiar?)
Bugs Stickers…
Interesting post! Thank you for the information…
Hey Sigh, the irony goes deeper. So you’re trying to fight people who improperly lash back against bigotry with stereotypes by calling them “morons.” The hypocrisy of the person pointing out hypocrisy… nice.
BTW, Kansans are not bigoted, per se; no, there just generally ignorant–the massive bigotry in the Kansas population stems from this deeper problem. I can easily see that; and I lived (until recently) in Eastern Kansas (Topeka)! Go walk Washburn University campus and you’ll see how much worse Western Kansas is. (Full of W. Kansas kids coming to the “big city”)
To their credit, though, their hearts are generally in the right place. That still doesn’t ameliorate the irritation that comes from the fact that the vast (VAST) majority of them are ignorant, bigoted troglodytes.
(correction) there = they’re
