The Independence Examiner recently instituted a free registration for their online content. While it is the only other daily newspaper in the metro, will enough people care about a small suburban paper to bother registering? This change comes just as the big boys are reconsidering the registration requirement – the LA Times recently did away with it for most of their online content.

With the spread of BugMeNot, these registrations are useless. If they would actually provide something worthwhile for the registration I wouldn’t have a bit of problem with them, but they do little more than help them maintain visitor #s. I’ve wrote about this over a year ago. Still, I haven’t seen any changes in what is being offered for the registration.
