Larry Griffin execution reexamined

Missouri may be the first state to be proved to have executed an innocent man. CNN, The Star, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch both report on the re-opening of the Larry Griffin case. The NAACP has issued a report arguing that Griffin was probably innocent, and the prosecutor has re-opened the case. Even the victim’s family now believes that Griffin is innocent.

Stories like this are just awful.

I don’t see a real problem with the death penalty in theory, but in practice there’s always going to be terrible injustices like this.

I don’t have a real problem giving BTK a lethal injection, but balanced against the political and legal mechanics that lead to wrong decisions by police, lawyers, government officials, judges, and juries, I don’t think the death penalty is good policy.
