Poll: Talent and McCaskill race starts in a tie
September 7, 2005 |
The first public poll in the race for US Senator from Missouri has Senator Jim Talent and challenger Claire McCaskill tied at 46% each. This is bad news for Talent because it shows no advantage for the incumbent Senator. Poll data like this is likely part of what prompted a reluctant McCaskill to forgo another run at the governorship and take on Talent. The poll also supports the notion that on some level this race will be referendum on President Bush, as respondents choice for Senate were strongly associated with their approval or disapproval of the president.
