Baird’s last chance

David Glass has confirmed that Allard Baird will return for the last year of his contract in 2006, despite a dismal 368-539 record since he became General Manager in 2000. Although Baird can’t bear all the blame when he’s working for the stingiest owner in baseball.

Glass is also finally opening his wallet and spending money on the team, and it’s probably not a coincidence that it’s happening just as he’s getting ready to ask for a huge taxpayer-financed stadium renovation.
