I dont think this will really make a difference one way or another. It will cause a stir when it opens then fade into who cares a few months down the line. While Hooters is a fine franchise I think there could have been a better franchise or business selected for that area.

the last thing westport needs is another chain with disregard for urban design standards. this is westport, not noland road. this is the wrong direction for the neighborhood for a variety of reasons. hopefully as power + light comes online, the “party zone” will shift more towards downtown, allowing westport to become more of a neighborhood again, and hooters will realize they made a mistake.

This is great news for the neighborhood. We are acting like the Flea has some art historical significance. I will miss a Warsteiner and Mini Market with Cheese as much as the next guy — but the place was a dump with a sordid past.

I can’t imagine them trying to remodel that dive. I live pretty close to it, and I will be buying extra mouse traps and bug bombs when they demolish the place.

Joe, what do you mean “at least”. You buy the building and then you can do what you want with it. I don’t really like that a Hooters is going in there either – but any legitimate company is going to do what makes the most sense for them in regards to P&L. Remodeling a low ceiling, structurally questionable building with years of smoke and other debris (Bob B?) probably doesn’t fit their business plan.
