Hearne reports that Rich Kenny is taking his nut concept even further. The owner of The Peanut and it’s hipster cousin The Cashew is taking over the old lower level bar in the Muehlebach Hotel and turning it into The Chestnut. The space is pretty cool. It’s a classic hotel bar that was supposedly a regular watering hole for Harry Truman. A January 2006 opening is planned, but considering how long it him to open the The Cashew, that date might be a tad optimistic.

It won’t take the Chestnut nearly as long to become operational as it did the Cashew, because the Chestnut location doesn’t require the renovation that the Cashew did. I believe it will be done close to January. God, it’s great to watch downtown coming to life again…
