In a bit of a surprise, 4th District KC Councilman Jim Rowland has announced his candidacy for Jackson County Executive in 2006. Most speculation had him running for KC mayor in 2007, and the timing might make the mayoral race possible as a Plan B. He is generally a decent politician, something that is sorely needed at corruption central the Jackson County Courthouse.
Rowland will likely face current County Prosecuter Mike Sanders who is often mentioned as a candidate for County Executive and has recently been working to raise his media profile. Three-term incumbent Katheryn Shields hasn’t announced her future plans, but most talk has her running for KC mayor in 2007 (of course that assumes she has gone to federal “pound-me-in-the-ass” prison by then). Another possible candidate is Bill Kenney, former Chiefs quarterback and State Senator from Lee’s Summit, but he would be a Republican running for a strongly Democratic office.

@BlogKC
If shields even gets on the ballot. I’m leaving KC.
Glad to hear that Jim is runnig for County Executive. I used to work for Jim when he was in the computer consulting industry, and he IS a stand up guy. Hopefully he can clean up the mess that Shields has made of the office.
Bill Kenney? I pray that the citizens of KC aren’t that stupid.
