Say good-bye to the Sprint Imax Theater. The Zoo is closing it as WDAF-TV 4 reports that attendance is down from 420,000 in 1998 to less than 85,000 in 2005. It seems that even after privatizaion and a second major infusion of bond money, the zoo is still failing to figure out how to become relevant to Kansas Citians again. Likewise, it seems that far fewer of us are venturing into the wilds of Swope Park these days. The similar Iwerks theater at Union Station is living on borrowed time.

I don’t go to the zoo to watch a film or movie. I still enjoy walking through the zoo though.
Union Station really takes the cake for losing alot of money. How many theatres, museums, etc has it gone through? If it had some fine dining restaurants perhaps… but I don’t know.
