I can’t be the only one who is dramatically underwhelmed at the thought of Alvin Brooks as mayor.

No, you aren’t but Rowland chickened out. It’s hard for me to admit this, but KC needs another great white hope. And to think this race won’t completely be about race is a false hope.

To my knowledge, Stan Glazer has officially announced as well

Everyone should read Mr. Kraske’s Sunday column were he proceeds to tell all of the readers of the Kansas City Star that Mr. Brooks shouldn’t run for Mayor. Then he adds a Crapske cute comment.

“Hey Stan Glazer. Call off the dogs. Please. It was just a brain bloop when I forgot to include your name the other day on a list of potential candidates for Kansas City Mayor. So lets clear this up: Stan Glazer is running for Mayor. You all heard that? Stan the Man is in Baby.”

Who are the dogs? — Influential friends of Mr. Glazers? Readers of the Star who complained? Is Kraske calling me a dog, because I called his boss?

Maybe the dogs are some of the contributors to Mr. Glazer’s campaign or Mr. Brooks campaign who know the damage that “continued forgetfulness” or “psychological blockages” or just downright “racial or religious prejudices” can cause when they go unchecked.

And while I am asking questions. If Kraske was really interested in giving Mr. Brooks his opinion why didn’t he call him and speak privately with him rather than writing and printing a story that can place a lot of doubt in readers minds as to the suitability of Mr. Brooks as Mayor of Kansas City. Mr. Brooks has been a valuable member of the City Council. Mr. Kraske’s question about “one major Brooks initiative” is a dispicable way of attacking a man who has served Kansas City and City Hall well. I know personally about that service as Mr. Brooks has questioned me on several occasions while taking my testimony in front of the finance committee. Each time his method of questioning me was an attempt to find a councillitory position that might ease my opposition.

So,in one week the Star has managed to cast doubt on Mr. Glazers campaign with an omission and they cast doubt on Mr. Brooks campaign with personal opinions and inuendoes like the Kraskesque statement “you’ll be running a clean campaign. But in a tight race, things can get tough real quick. Anyway you get my drift.” That says nothing, but it infers that Brooks has a problem if the campaign turns dirty. Is that what Kraske wanted to insinuate that there are things in Brooks background that a dirty campaign will bring to the surface? What kind of crap is that to put into readers heads?

    It’s typical Crapske.

I agree with you about Kraske, but I also have my doubts about Brooks. Things are happening in KC because Kay Barnes is so connected. We have to continue with the progress that is going on, and, unfortunately, that will be someone from the same circle (although I will vote for Brooks over ANY Republican).

If Alvin Brooks becomes mayor I’ll move across the state line and watch the city go to hell in a hand basket

I want the readers to know that I am an African American in the Third District; the same district in which the Move Up organization once resided and Alvin Brooks once championed. The 3rd district is an area which includes a vast population that is predominately African American-that once looked up to Mr. Brooks as a leader; but now look down on him as a politician.

I hope that Mr. Brooks himself will attend the upcoming Town Hall Meeting at Rev WL Posey’s church at 2616 E. 39th street on November 18th at 12:00 noon to discuss the proposed Epicenter project in which to create 260,000 new jobs. A proposal that Mr. Brooks has known about for three years. A proposal that is intended to reduce, reverse and or eliminate the impoverished conditions within the Urban Core and offer a means of prosperity, equality, growth and stability for the Urban Core community, city and beyond.

What I want to know is he going to show up or respond to my May 2006 request for a written response in support or opposition to the project and our organizational efforts? I give him the same challenge as I have given John Fairfield… Bet both of you chicken out! In case you’ve forgotten Mr. Brooks, my number is (816) 861-0311-Lamar Mickens.

Philanthropists; African American-and not politician running for office nor from my duties as President of Quality Day Campus Inc. Provide the written response, I’ll provide the media coverage!
