Bareknuckle politics (literally)
January 31, 2006 |
Yesterday Jackson County government reached new lows when a meeting of the County Legislature ended in a brawl. Legislator Bob Stringfield, one of the few voices of reason in the group, got up in Dan Tarwater’s grill and a fight broke out.
These are the same folks that are asking you for permission to spend $1 billion of your tax money to upgrade the Truman Sports Complex.

Update: This just in… MetroSports has announced that it will start airing County Legislature meetings on pay-per-view, and Las Vegas bookies will start taking bets.

From the Star article:
“Mr. Stringfield, do not make this Legislature a circus,” Rizzo said…
Funny, I already thought it was.
Stringfield? Voice of reason? hahahaha
One of the legislature’s members was quoted as saying, this incident should have no effect on the stadium tax vote. Oooh, … really ?????
Mr. Stringfield has been treated very poorly by his fellow law makers. He alone asked for clarification from one of the experts the county had hired to talk about the Stadium leases. He asked if the amount that was really needed to keep the present leases in effect was only 60 or 80 million dollars and the expert said that was correct. The rest of those present acted very ungentlemanly, as if that was a question that he should have never dared to ask. The same attitude existed the next time that the “amended leases” were presented. It was as if they did not want any questions asked for clarification for the public knowledge. Shameful
Oh Tony.. too funny. The “bare knuckles” brawl? what!!??? From the stringy guy and the bloated dude. Oh man! Some fight. I want my tax dollars back if that is the best we can come up with. As far as the genesis (not genius) of this latest cat fight, poor Stringfield’s aides were treated ever so rudely by the mean beaurocrats. “Oh boo hoo let’s go tell Bob.”
Stringfield is a good guy, just disorganized. He allows the minutia to have ascendancy over real matter. Plus his aides’ agendas have become his. He speaks of a “team” but they are running his cage in the zoo that is Shield’s county government.
