University of Missouri Press on exhibit
January 22, 2006 | Comments Off
KC Public Library’s Plaza Branch has a month-long exhibit on the University of Missouri Press, one of the country’s most important scholarly publishers. A keynote talk will take place on January 25th with Gerald Eskenazi, University of Missouri Press author and retired New York Times sportswriter.
Through its evolution, the Press focused on original scholarly research in the humanities and on outstanding creative writing, as well as on studies emphasizing Missouri and the Midwest. The Collected Works of Langston Hughes, along with a number of titles by the preeminent African American historian and civil rights titan, John Hope Franklin, have moved the Press into the leading ranks of publishers of African American studies.
