Just when you think Jackson County government can’t get anymore ridiculous, it does. It’s been over a year since our last post on COMBAT, Jackson County’s unique anti-drug program that uses a special sales tax to fund both law enforcement and drub abuse prevention. But this one is a doozy. The director of the COMBAT program was recently arrested for drunk driving. You read that right – the county’s #1 anti-drug czar was driving drunk, at over twice the legal limit. And it was quite a journey, all way from Sugar Creek on the north end of the county down to Longview Road in the south. It’s really no wonder why the rest of the region doesn’t want to send us any money for things like stadiums, theaters, etc. You just can’t shit up like this.

It’s not like she was smoking crack too. Plenty of everday people and people in high profile positions get DUI’s and everyone bats an eye for about seven seconds and forgets about it. I’m not saying it’s right, but that’s the way it is. Smoke crack and you’re through. Although Mayor Barry could refute that one as well.
I think the inherent irony that a lot of people seem to miss here is this:
Anti-druggies consider ANY use of illegal drugs to be ABuse that will surely usher in the end of days, while abuse of alcohol is fairly tollerated, prevalent, regulated by law, and not considered to be the downfall of society.
There is nothing wrong with drinking, but there is everything wrong with driving drunk – ESPECIALLY when you are the person responsible for the county’s drug laws.
The irony is that she could have killed someone driving like that if the police hadn’t picked her up. I don’t care if the head of COMBAT pickles her liver in her own home each night of the week. It’s when she gets behind the wheel of a car and threatens the safety of my friends and their children that makes me start screaming.
It is hypocritical that we can drink, but can’t smoke. It’s also hypocritical if the higher ups let her off and continue in this position as director. I know that she should at least have a second chance, but she has blown the public trust. She has no regard for our safety on her own time, how can we be certain that she can be accountable on our time?
DUIrony?
You people (posters, not racially intended- sorry your can’t use it as an excuse this time), will run Vickie into the ground for a mistake that many of us have made. Discipline her for her mistake and move on. She is without a doubt one of the most competant people for that position, but it is more likely than not that she will be run into the ground and then who will you put into that position? Probably someone much less competant than the one you have now.
Simple answer………….discipline her and move on! She is a very good and competent person!
