Katheryn Shields announces she won’t seek a fourth term as Jackson County Executive and endorses State Senator Charles Wheeler’s campaign for the job. A race for mayor of KCMO appears to still be an option for Shields in 2007.

Oy. Three things bother me about this. One, she still might have mayoral aspirations.
Two, she’s encouraging a split in the county’s Democratic Party, not that it doesn’t have it’s other problems.
And third, she’s just tainted Charlie Wheeler’s chances. I like Charlie Wheeler, and I might vote for him. But it’s hard to take a “clean up the County Courthouse” stand when one of the biggest establishment liabilities (Shields) has endorsed you.
Shields as Mayor will give us a chance to have the same type of mismanagement and controversy that has existed at the county. Maybe we could merge Jackson County with the City of Kansas City and then she could keep on screwing up everything with Charlie Wheeler as her fall guy this time.
