KCTV-5 has been caught once again making up the news, and this time they’ve made the Drudge Report. In an operation similar to their Internet perv entrapment, they are working with an organization that deliberately provokes police assaults. This time they tried to get Independence police to beat up an undercover reporter on camera, but it backfired and the IPD is considering legal action.

Of course, no one will send a guy over to the KCTV-5 studios to act like an asshole and see how their security treats him. One thing I love about 5 and 4 (the two stations who have done the “trap the cops” stories in the past) is how they never ever under any circumstances do these bits in Johnson County. I mean never. Whenever they go out looking for cop misbehavior, it’s KCPD, Indpendence, KCK…never Overland Park or Fairway, right where 5’s studio is located. I didn’t know that 5 even knew where Independence was, for all the Eastern Jackson County stories it does.

Was Steve Chamraz behind this one too?

This is a novel way to get a story. Rather than actually interview a police brutality victim — if there is one here — see if you can get the cops to knock the crap out of your intern or some other poor slob. Must have been a slow news day. Too bad there’s nothing else important going on in Jackson County …

But I kind of like the idea of manufacturing news. Maybe they can tackle a meth story by cooking and selling meth. Or report on prostitution on Independence Avenue by having the cameraman turn tricks. The possiblities are endless if you’re not saddled with a conscience or bound by a set of professional ethics.

KCTV 5 really takes the cake with that one… Between 4 and 5, I’ll watch 4’s news. I’m growing tiresome of KCTV’s sensationalism.

Probably why I turn on KMBZ most often…

… not to mention 3 free hours of Katie Horner’s droning about storms (THE BOIDS ARE COMING! THE BOIDS ARE COMING!).

KCTV has had a hard-on for IPD for quite some time. They didn’t get the hoo-ha they had hoped over their IPD Car Chase story: The chief there told them to stick it, and that they were going to keep doing what they were doing…the public was okay with it, and it all went away. It’s pretty obvious that KCTV is targeting the department, which really reflects poorly on any news organization.

Perhaps Independence is the only place where the plant was roughed up. Ben, what evidence do you have that the TV stations only targeted Independence? What is the likelyhood that you can answer that question without making some sort of sexual referance?

..or referEnce, as the case may be. Seen any other departments get this type of treatment? Seen any “stings” on Overland Park cops? Seen any news from Independence on KCTV that wasn’t naegative? Do you have a TV William?

In response to my request for proof that other police departments are not targeted you ask me to prove otherwise. You did not answer my question. Instead you pick on a minor typo. You have insufficient evidence to make your charges stick. But then again, I’m not bent over with my head stuck in some hole.
