The parade’s new route is in place again this year… Starting at Main and Pershing, going east one block to Grand and then north on Grand to Truman Road. Barricades will also be in place again, so chose your side of the street carefully. The time is still 11:00am to 1:00pm, but with all of the construction going on Downtown it would be a good idea to arrive early in order to find parking.
Better yet, take the bus. The MAX express route runs every 15 minutes and stops at 19th and Main in the Crossroads. Lots of parking is available at the Waldo (75th and Wornall) and River Market (5th and Grand) park-and-ride lots, as well as the parking garages on the eastern end of the Plaza. For your after-parade partying the MAX also runs to Midtown, Westport, the Plaza, and Brookside.

@BlogKC
FYI, buses will be on reroute by 8 a.m. due to the parade. I’d recommend taking MAX to 19th & Main, since it won’t stop at Crown Center or Union Station.
ATA, thanks for the heads up. You must have posted that news release right after I checked your site…
The Max is running to Westport now? I thought the closest it went was just outside of Gate’s. Do you know if they are changing it? I didn’t find any info about it on the map, but I hope it’s true because it could cut down on potential drunk drivers.
the max has always stopped at 43rd and Main and 39th and Main, both are close to Westport, depending on which part you are headed.
Yep, “Main at 39th” and “Main at 43rd” have always been on the map. It doesn’t stop right in front of Kelly’s, but it’s only a short walk from Main to Broadway. However, the city needs to do a lot of work to make the walk from MAX to the heart of Westport more inviting for the tourists and suburbanites.
i agree, not everybody has voluntarily elected to live car free in kc (with all of its challenges). i suspect that kcmo will reactively make changes to the transit situation as energy prices continue to climb…and they will. in the meantime, i have a bicycle that makes up for the gaps in the bus system, and the bike racks are fairly easy to operate.
I think it’s worth mentioning that the Max, actually goes out to Waldo where Lew’s are having their big Irish Hooley in a heated tent, it’s also right by 75th St Brewery, Kennedy’s, the new place called The Gaf, even Governor Stumpy’s, among others
The city should ban the Irish parade from downtown. Each year it’ll get worse. More drunks or kids with guns. Police should start ticketing the drunks.
