Dog Parks for All

April 24, 2006 |

The huge success of the dog park at Penn Valley Park is spawning several additional dog parks. The city has funding allocated for an even larger park next to the Animal Control on Raytown Road, near the stadiums. That one should be ready this summer. A Northland park is also in the works, but the city is having trouble finding an appropriate site. Users of the Penn Valley park also have about $300,000 worth of PIAC requests pending for future improvements to this dog park that gets more visitors than of the city’s community centers.

Dog parks are also popping up in the suburbs. One is already in place in Olathe, and several are on the way to the Eastern Jackson County ‘burbs of Independence, Lee’s Summit, and Blue Springs.

Just like you to leave out JoCo’s large and well established off-leash dog area in Shawnee Mission Park. The parking lot there often overflows onto the park road not to mention that it is closer to most Jackson countians than JoCo’s Heritage Park in Olathe.

William, it was just an oversight. Why do you have to be an asshole about it? Why not just say, “hey by the way, you missed the one at Shawnee Park” ? ?

  3. Hajkar on April 24, 2006 10:01 am

I was somehow rude? I could have done as you suggest just as you could drop the anti-JoCo attitude you often present without justification here in your blog.

  4. BlogKC on April 24, 2006 10:24 am

    William,

I can be anti-Joco if I want, just as you can decline to read it if you want. And actually I’d prefer if you just stayed away. The focus of this blog is Kansas City, Missouri.

You call me an asshole and I’m the one being rude?

You’ve pulled out that KCMO excuse once before yet you mention things and places in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties and as far away as Joplin MO. Your hypocrisy is showing. Like it or not, KCMO and Jackson Cty. interest me. What happens there effects what happens here in Johnson Cty. It works both ways and I would think that if you were truly interested in KCMO you would welcome and respect the opinions of those from the Kansas side of the line.

William why don’t you just start blogJOCO instead of having to nitpick on every topic that is presented??? If you know there is a bias what are you trying to accopmlish by continuing to visit??
    It sound like you’re whining..

  7. Hajkar on April 24, 2006 11:45 am

Why don’t you grow a thicker skin? I am trying to fight a bias that has no basis in reality. We are more alike than different. Why exacerbate a division that should not exist.

Again, though, you overstate your arguement. There are several topics upon which I have posted no comments at all.

Take off your blinders and gain a better perspective of the world around you. When I drive down State Line Rd. I see very little difference between one side and the other.

Are there any off-leash cat parks in the works in either county?

  9. ScooterJ on April 24, 2006 3:09 pm

I need someone to open an off-bowl goldfish park.

  10. Hajkar on April 24, 2006 3:50 pm

As of this time, all of Overland Park is essentially an off-leash area for cats. I hear, however, that this may soon change. Can’t speak for the regulations in MO.

  11. Hajkar on April 24, 2006 3:56 pm

I’ve heard of the walking catfish, even the walking catfish that exhibet dry land predetoprial behavior. Has ScooterJ discovered a new species?

JoCo sucks. Keep up the good work

  13. AeroSquid on April 24, 2006 6:56 pm

You must not be looking to buy a house off state line or you would notice the difference real quick. How’s that for reality?

  14. Hajkar on April 25, 2006 7:19 am

Thanks for your opinion, Bob. Can you please expand on that thought or is it as empty as your comment.

    AeroSquid-

As it is, I have looked to buy property on either side of the state line for investment purposes. The houses still appear mostly the same. Are you talking about taxes or prices? Or is it a closer look at the school districts and infrasrtructure that makes the difference? Perhaps you are considering the political situations. The homicide rate? I suspect the houses opposite each other of State Line compare quite well once you fill in the complete calculus.

Why do you wish to perpetuate this unnecessary and unwarranted animosity?

  15. AeroSquid on April 25, 2006 10:32 am

so you’re saying that houses cost the same in JOCO and KCMO? Put down the crack pipe willie.

  16. Hajkar on April 25, 2006 12:40 pm

That is not what I said, Squid. After considering a multitude of componenets (one cannot simply consider price alone) their is less difference between the two sides of the metro area than you are trying to imply. We have section 8 housing in JoCo. There are many very fine homes in KCMO. Comparable homes sell at comparable value. I thought my post on that very subject was cogent enough. You disagree and so therefor I must smoke crack?. Did you really need to make it personal to support your position?

  17. Hajkar on April 25, 2006 1:42 pm

    dang my fat fingers..

    *flogs self for bad spelling*

*drops 3/8ths cents into Jackson County’s pennance fund*

Oh, Squid! No one calls my Willie. Buck will suffice if you should want to direct me more personally.

  18. Diana on April 28, 2006 10:02 am

So much for talking about the dog parks.

  19. Megan on June 8, 2006 5:51 pm
