…and the AIDS Walk Saturday morning in Theis Park.

  2. Hajkar on April 21, 2006 8:30 am

Will AIDS Walk event offer free valet parking for your bike? Or was that just another unneccesary swipe at Johnson County? Even for an event that benefits the entire metro and you cannot drop the unjustified animosity towards your neighbors?

  3. thurston on April 21, 2006 8:43 am

Jeez, Hajkar/William M. Buchanan, III sure is touchy about how others view JoCo … (Psst, William, the link to your web site gives you away.)

It’s Earth Day! You know … respect Mother Nature, recycle, use less gas and other natural resources, eat granola, hugging trees, etc. Encouraging people to ride bikes, and offering valet parking for your bike, is just another part of it. If it were held at the Zoo like it has in the past, I’m sure organizers would offer valet parking there, too.

I heard organizers wanted to find a free space to encourage attendance. But if JoCo is going to take offense at the smallest perceived slight, maybe it should come back to Missouri.

  4. BlogKC on April 21, 2006 8:57 am

William, there was nothing at all in my post that was slamming Johnson County. The bike valet parking is FOR REAL. It’s sponsored by the Missouri Bicycle Federation as a way to encourage people to bike more. You have to try really hard to be offended by this imaginary slight.

But it seems really ironic to hold Earth Day in a location that has no public transportation available and is too far away for many people to bike to it. Most folks will have to burn gas on the highway for 45 minutes to get to Earth Day. (An no that’s not a Joco slam, the same would be true if it was in Lee’s Summit or Liberty)

  5. Hajkar on April 21, 2006 11:07 am

Thanks for that clarification. I apologize for my missunderstanding. You might understand my mistake given the proven tendancy by this blog to give routine slight to Johnson County. JoCo park is easily accessable by bike even from Jackson County. I’ve ridden the distance on a regular basis for years plus the area is quite well populated. In fact, the park is a particular favorite for cyuclists around the metro. Nothing ironic. The fact you think so indicates your ignorance and bias. So get off my back.

Thurston, n=ever meant to hide my identity just took some precautions due to the hostile nature the responses to some of my posts received as well as satisfying my friends’ and family’s concerns about my safety. But feel free to jump to any unfounded conclusions you desire.

  6. thurston on April 21, 2006 1:32 pm

Jeez, dude. It took all of two seconds to figure out who you were with your new “super secret identity.” Can you try a little harder next time?

  7. Hajkar on April 21, 2006 3:08 pm

As I said, Thuston, changing my nick was not so much to hide my identity as it was a favor to my family and friends. But if you want to come on over and make fun of me to my face, I’m sure you can find my address easily enough. Ride your bike on by on your way to Earth Day. Just don’t hurt yourself patting yourself on the back for figuring out those things that were not truly hidden.

  8. Hajkar on April 21, 2006 4:34 pm

I’ve searched the EarthFest site and see no men tion of valet bike parking. They will provide a secure area to leave your bike for the day but hardly the same as “valet” parking. I was right the first time. Of all the events going on BlogKC highlights and takes “secured bike parking” into “valet bike parking.” I withdraw my apology and reinstate my accusation that it was an unwarranted swipe at JoCo. Your journalistic integrity remains highly in question.

  9. AeroSquid on April 22, 2006 7:15 am

not that it was a swipe at joco… but how would taking shots at them be unwarranted? If you actually lived in Kansas City, MO maybe you would understand the frustration we feel with the people of Johnson County. We grow tired of paying for your entertainment and supplying you with culture.

  10. Hajkar on April 22, 2006 8:29 am

    AeroSquid-

You discount the amount of money that cames from JoCo to help substantially fund all of the Metro area’s cultural events. How much of the Bi-State tax monies were spent in KS? Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. I grow tired of KCMO trying to find new ways to dip their hand into my pocket, mismanage the money they took and then having to listen as they complain that they are somehow the victim and JoCo the bad guy. JoCo dollars already pay a good chunk of the money that funds the culture in the metro area and you have no more right to lay claim to the responsibility for bringing it here than I do.

  11. thurston on April 22, 2006 9:49 am

    William,

Maybe the Internet just isn’t for you.

There is valet parking for bikes at Earth Day. Here’s a link:

    http://www.mobikefed.org/calendar/view_entry.php?id=574&date=20060422

The page includes this statement: “Bicyclists are encouraged to ride to EarthFest and take advantage of the FREE valet bicycle parking”

I guess you’ll be apologizing AGAIN anytime now, right?

I’d like to see the beet-red color you turn as you tightly clench your soft, manicured hands in ineffectual rage because I disagree with you. But frankly, I have better things to do than to trek out to western JoCo. Don’t take it as an indication I’m afraid of a pudgy, pale suburbanite. It’s more I just don’t care.

Gramps, I’m glad the kids chipped in to get you a computer for Christmas. You probably pledged that day to sally forth and vigorously defend the honor of JoCo and its fickle residents in your trademark dour, humorless manner. But if you’re going to pick fights, you really ought to consider hiding your true name, address, phone and e-mail address. I get a huge chuckle out of the hissy fits you throw here. Others may not. Please talk to someone a little bit more Internet- and computer-savvy than yourself. Just some friendly advice.

    Cheers,

    Thurston

All of the Kansas/Missouri bickering is really ridiculous.

Both sides of the state line are stupid.
Both sides also have good things too.

    JOHNSON COUNTY ———–
Pro: It has lots of good housing, clean (and good to to drive on) roads, pretty low crime.

Con: JoCo is BEIGE. Lots of boring strip malls with the same 7 stores. No good transit, and NO ONE walks.

    KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI ———–

Pro: About everything fun to do in the metro area is on the Missouri side. Much better transportation. More culture and diversity. Lots of history.

Con: The roads are TERRIBLE. The school board is a JOKE. Long history of bad politicans/decisions. Old infrastructure - needs work.

Both sides have good AND bad, ok? And, just for the record AeroSquid, Missouri doesn’t pay for JoCo’s culture and entertainment - WE ALL DO. It’s funny…many Missourians complain that they are sick of snooty JoCo people driving across the state line and going to concerts/shows/sporting events. However, you should be happy - that’s called TOURISM money!

Let me make it more clear:
    MISSOURI IS TAKING KANSAS’ MONEY!
Every time someone from Kansas drives across the state line, and drops $80 for a concert and another $40 for dinner, that’s money being taken away from Kansas.
As a Missourian, you should be happy, and Kansans should be mad.

Yet, the same people that make the same comment as AeroSquid, are same people who say that if the Royals or Chiefs ever moved their stadium to the Kansas side of the metro area, they would never go to another game!

    Kansans. Missourians. GROW UP.
We all live here. Things don’t work because of these idiotic attitudes/jealousies.

  13. Hajkar on April 23, 2006 7:20 am

    ChrisM70-

Other than the Plaza, MO’s strip malls are just as mundane as those in KS.

Seems like people enjoy the racetrack in KS.

Beyond those overreaching arguements you present, I agree with you and this is consistant with my position all along.

  14. Hajkar on April 24, 2006 1:58 pm

    Thurston-

Thanks again for putting me in my place. Do you feel empowered?

Isn’t it interesting that manners and respect are viewed as part of an older generation. Maturity isn’t always measured in years. However, I have been on the Internet long enough to have raised a child to legal age but “Gramps” is still premature? The value of true discourse as the appropriate manner of communication on the net has beeen replaced by the rude and crude.

  15. ChrisM70 on April 24, 2006 8:19 pm

    Hajkar,

I agree with you that the attitudes and manners of most people have gotten exponentially worse throught the last 10-15 years, and it is a growing concern.

However, I think you need to calm down a little, and perhaps show a little more of your maturity, and let this stuff slide. I noticed that you were complaining on an earlier post about the blogger himself (or herself) using the word shitty.
This is not CNN. This is a PERSONAL BLOG. The person who creates BlogKC can say any damn thing they want to say! And, if this person wants to filter out comments from me, you or anyone else, they can do that too. It’s up to them.
And, if you feel strongly enough, start your OWN blog - created just for mature people that don’t use crude language. You certainly seem like you have stuff to say…

  16. Hajkar on April 25, 2006 9:25 am

Sure, the blogger can use any kind of language they desire but gratuitous profanity only detracts from their arguement and challanges their journalistic integrity. Noenetheless, BlogKC does do a fair enough job despite his snide attitude towards JoCo. You don’t have to like my style and I have no desire to start a blog for some- so-called JoCo syncophants of maturity. But thanks for your unrequested suggestion. Perhaps you could even heed your own advice and let this stuff slide.

  17. ChrisM70 on April 25, 2006 9:42 am

wow… you seem to take everything personally, Hajkar.

Plus, do you think poor spelling detracts from an argument or challenges ones journalistic integrity?

Perhaps I should let it slide…

  18. Hajkar on April 25, 2006 10:33 am

Why do you care, Chris? I take your direct questions and suggestions to me personally. How else should I take them? The use of profanity is intended. My misspellings are just unintentional. If you want to discount my opinions for that be my guest.

  19. ChrisM70 on April 25, 2006 2:42 pm

thanks, I think I’ll do just that.

  20. Hajkar on April 25, 2006 4:42 pm

Cool. I’ll discount your comments as closed minded for unwarranted reasons.

  21. ChrisM70 on April 25, 2006 8:49 pm

    Ok…that’s not cool.

I want to ignore you, but…

You complain about incivility and foul language, and then you back up your argument by resorting to name-calling.

“I’ll discount your comments as close minded for unwarranted reasons.”

    That’s pretty UNcivil.

By the way: The unwarranted reasons you mention -
    mine or YOURS?

    Discounted comments… I’d say they’re about half off…

  22. Hajkar on April 26, 2006 7:10 am

    Chris-

If you thought the above quoted of me by you was somehow uncivil you really need to learn how to use a dictionary. It *was* a civil response to a childish comment about my spelling.

I will continue to object to profanity. This may be someone’s personal blog, however, it is quite public and profanity is rarely the best or even most accurate use of the language to promote good public civil discourse.

As for defending comments, I feel have done so for mine. Now, please point out one example where I have resorted to name-calling. Then count the number of times posters have impugned my character without the pleasure of meeting me in person or even really trying to counter my arguements.

  23. ChrisM70 on April 26, 2006 11:51 am

I don’t think this blog was created for civil discourse, and the comments are just people’s comments on his posts.

Referring to me as close-minded is something I think you knew would be taken as a personal offense (how could you not?), therefore, it was name calling. Not civil.

Pointing out your poor spelling was a commentary on your condemnation of anyone who uses language that you find offensive. You felt that it detracted from their argument. I feel the same way about constant, poor spelling.

Finally, I’m not going to go and read how many times someone has impugned your character. My guess is that it has happened a few times, and if you are so concerned about people writing things about you who have never met you, it’s probably best not to post comments to a blog.

Just another of my helpful suggestions…

  24. Hajkar on April 26, 2006 12:19 pm

I was bored this noon so I perused my comments just to be sure I haven’t somehow been guilty of name-calling. I found the following:

    “ChrisM70 Says:
    April 24th, 2006 at 8:19 pm

    Hajkar,

I agree with you that the attitudes and manners of most people have gotten exponentially worse throught the last 10-15 years, and it is a growing concern.”

throught? We already know your disdain for the opinions of those who sometimes make a typo or two….

    Consider *your* customary discount applied.

  25. ChrisM70 on April 26, 2006 12:39 pm

Wow… you are bored. Maybe we need to get you a more fulfilling career.

If you read my last comment, it was my disdain for CONSTANT poor grammar - not the odd misspelled word.

However, if it makes you feel superior (which I’m sure it does) you have done it - you have found a spelling error!

  26. Hajkar on April 26, 2006 12:49 pm

    You keep replying….

  27. Hajkar on April 26, 2006 1:07 pm

I suppose you prefer grammar such as:

    “JOCO sucks”

Never claimed to be an English Major. Have yet to see any one here demonstrate such a demand of the English language that your exageration of my minor errors should discount my opinions to the level you suggest.

“Wow… you are bored. Maybe we need to get you a more fulfilling career.

As I said…. You keep replying.
