New GOP Blog
May 31, 2006 | 8 Comments
The Source is a new conservative blog gunning for Roy Temple’s Fired Up! Missouri. The author is Jeff Roe, a Republican operative usually associated with the Brothers Graves, and most recently with Pat Gray and NorthStar Marketing’s campaign for the Truman Sports Complex renovations.
As is often the case, the Joco Star only runs a fleeting blurb and we have to turn to the Post-Dispatch’s Jo Mannies for the details of the story.

Talk about “cred”… what does your referance to “the Joco Star” supposed to mean?
It’s a common conception, and pretty strongly supported by the evidence, that the Star has a strong JoCo bias and tends to overreport news there while underreporting news, or only reporting negative news, for other areas.
Hence the fact that all over town you can find people calling it the “JoCo Star”, the “Kansas Star”, or the “KU Star”.
And what is that perception based upon? In fact, I have found the Star’s On-line attitude to be rather cynical towards Johnson County.
BlogKC lauded Greg Reeves’ Crime Scene KC Blog. He provides the crime reports from many of the metropolitan jurisdictions. I see nothing in these reports that indicates an unusual habit of under-reporting crime in the relative areas.
Poor William just doesn’t understand sarcasm, or maybe just never interacts with anyone outside Johnson County.
People all over the Missouri side call the paper by those various names because they feel it has too much coverage of what is just one of the many suburban communities in the region.
Political coverage is especially slanted, with the two main political reports (Kraske and Helling) living in Kansas. It’s a lot harder to report on a community from the outside, like these two do. Thus Start’s coverage of Missouri politics quite often lags far behind the Post-Dispatch. Jo Mannies provides more coverage than all of the Stars reporters combined.
I get it well enough, Pendergasted. I’ve yet to see the evidence. Plenty of proclomations from annonymous people who seem to have an anti-JoCo agenda but very little to back-up their accusations. I have no doubt that Jo Mannies covers Missouri politics better than the Star. But then agaim, how could *you* recognize a JoCo bias living outside of JoCo?
