Derek,

First, I can’t condone the actions of all illegal immigrants, but do you know what is involved in becoming a legal US citizen? Just be glad you were born here and you didn’t have to go through all of the crap they put foreigners through to become an American citizen like you and me.

Second, I’m guessing most of the people that come here illegally believe they have no other choice. Conditions in Mexico are terrible, and jobs are almost non-existant. Why else would people risk death and imprisonment crossing into the US to take crappy minimum wage jobs? Because it’s a fun adventure? They do it for their families.

See this article:
www.santacruzsentinel.com/archive/2006/May/01/local/stories/01local.htm

The real issue we need to address is why are things so bad in Mexico. If it wasn’t so terrible there, they wouldn’t need to leave. I’m pretty sure most Mexicans love their country and don’t want to leave, but they have to survive, too.

Don’t be too quick to judge all of these people as criminals.

Derek, I will agree it is illegal to sneak into a country. A felony, your smoking funny cigarettes.
Is there any culpability on the part of the United States? Check the kitchens in the Plaza.
Have you ever tried to enter a county to work? Have you ever tried to enter a country to become a citizen?
There are real things to worry about, illegal border jumping is as old as borders. Usually when caught you were forced to work for the government. Get a life, try jumping a border.

What part of "illegal" do these aliens don't get?

They violate the law by their sheer presence. They commit a misdemeanor by sneaking into this country (it ought to be a felony in my opinion). Then, a felony is commited when using false SSNs when applying for DLs, social assistances, employment.

Whoever says that they're trying to make an "honest" living is full of it.

If they were honest, they would have entered the country the right way!
