Shameful
June 1, 2006 |
This photo from local blog Bradical Mindspew shows just how bad it has become at Kauffman Stadium. It looks like the vast majority of fans at the recent Royals/Cardinals series were sporting red. Since the most St. Louisans don’t like to acknowledge existence of the state’s biggest city, it’s certain that many of those folks wearing red were actually Kansas Citians. Perhaps a new GM and several million tax dollars can help improve the most dysfunctional organization in all of professional sports.

I’m more concernced about the guy in the Pink than all that red. He might have some issues. Just my thoughts.
and now the royals are officially onion-worthy.

Let’s hope that Moore is truly a John Schuerholtz clone. If he is half as good, then the Royals might have a chance at mediocrity. They surely can’t get much worse. More than that will require a substantial investment by Mr. Glass.
that pic is sad…I went to 2 of the 3 games that weekend(sprorting Royal blue of course) and I saw more than a handful of “Royals” fans around me actually wearing Red clothing…WTF is the matter with people?!?!?!
I went to the Royals/Cardinals games several years in a row here in KC, and the first time that there was a lot of Cardinal fans, I said to myself, “Huh…I guess a lot of Cardinal fans drove over from St. Louis to see Kauffman and their team.”
Then, after the THIRD year of large Cardinal turnouts - I realized the ugly truth: These weren’t die-hard Cardinal fans making the long trip from across the state! These were KANSAS CITIANS! People that LIVE AMONG US! These bandwagon turncoats only show up to see the Cardinals once a year and won’t support their OWN team.
Also, in response to Mike: Many of those Royals fans were wearing Red because they probably are only Chiefs’ fans, and got free tickets, and didn’t own any Royal Blue clothing. Cheap AND terrible baseball fans.
So the Royals Suck. And they have a cheap owner. Plus, they may become the worst team in modern baseball. But, they are MY team, and like a good loyal fan, if I must, I’ll go down with the ship.
Remember ‘85!
Yep, I am going down with the ship too. I don’t know if Dayton Moore is going to fix everything but it can’t hurt. I was at the Saturday night game of that series and my friend, a Royals fan, wore a red shirt. I couldn’t believe it. It was almost enough to me to have to friend-break-up with him…
” ,,, most St. Louisans don’t like to acknowledge existence of the state’s biggest city”
Are you serious?! “St. Louisans don’t like to acknowledge the state’s biggest city…?”
Mister, show me a bigger metro area than the St. Louis area (in this state) and I’ll eat your shorts. It’s KC-ites who are in denial about this whole population business. Kc enlarged their boundaries to pass St. Louis’ population– technically– (we’re locked-in at 61 sq miles) but we have nearly 3 million people within a 60 mile area — while kc has about 1.5 million.
People in kc live in some kind of fantasy land. St. Louisans not only Do Not envy Kc — most don’t even know where it is!
“Mister, show me a bigger metro arean than the St. Louis area (in this state) and I’ll eat your shorts.”
Ah… But he did not say “metro area” he said city. The city of St. Louis has a population of just over 300,000; whereas the city of Kansas City, MO is just over 440,000. Now I agree that the metro area of STL is much larger than KC. But if the city STL’s population was back to 1950, then it would be over 900,000. Thanks to the interstates, the “dream” of suburban living, and the fact that STL hasn’t changed it’s physical boundaries since 1876 (to break free of the “corruption” of the St. Louis County government), STL’s population has dwindled significantly.
Now I, as a current Kansas Citian (downtown) and a former St. Louisan (St. Charles), I do not “envy” either city. Both cities have their strengths and weaknesses, (I for one don’t “envy” St. Louis traffic), but both are good cities in their own right. I like St. Louis better for it’s historical content, and Kansas City for it’s livibility and my family being here. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my years in St. Louis, but really they’re so similar that people want to fight about how much they’re different.
