Barnes caves, yanks landlord licensing
August 24, 2006 |
It’s not a big surprise that Mayor Barnes has given in to developers and killed the latest proposal to license and regulate landlords of rental housing. Her new proposal is to hire a rental housing coordinator and expand the codes inspection staff.
While the mayor’s plan sounds OK in theory, paying for it out of the general fund provides no gaurantee of consistency - especially in a few years when we new council members and public interest wanes.

Remember when the Mayor’s mantra was “Service First”… This was a big “screw you” to neighborhoods which have taken it on the chin during her entire administration. Whether bad landlords or bag dogs this Mayor and Council have abdicated their responsibilities. Another layer of government is NEVER the answer.
Whoops…. that should be “bad” dogs…. bag dogs are no threat….
No suprise here. I heard she is not going to do anything about the $1.25 Million dollar loan on the Library Lofts either for the same reason. She will get the Council to renew the loan. Remember the CDBG funds scandal, when all of the “loans” were looked at. Well this one is susposed to be at 1% and there is NO low or middle income units in the building –it is where Cauthern lives, come to think of it he should have caught the discreptancies when the other loans were looked at.
The Sunset Strip is the name given to the mile and a half stretch of Sunset Boulevard that passes through West Hollywood, California. It extends from West Hollywood’s east border with Hollywood at Marmont Lane to its west border with Beverly Hills at Phyllis street. The Strip is probably the best known portion of Sunset, embracing a premier collection of boutiques, restaurants, rock clubs, and nightclubs that are on the cutting edge of the entertainment business. It is also known for its trademark array of huge, colorful billboards.
