President Bush is coming to KC to raise money for Senator Jim Talent’s re-election campaign. The $1000 per ticket event is Sept. 6 at the home of Scott Ward, 55th and Ward Parkway. Yes, it’s *that* Ward family, owners of Russell Stover Candy. Protests are planned for outside the Ward home.

Protest with your vote. Keep voting for the same type of politician and thats what you’re going to get. Pretty simple.

I do not quite understand what there is to protest. Are we insenuating that the GOP has fundraisers? I am sure, in fact I know that Dems. when they bring in big names i.e Bill Clinton that they charge Big $$$ for attendance. Let’s face it running a political campaign is not cheap these days. The name of the game is to raise as much as you can. I do not see anything wrong with this fundraiser.

The problem with the fund raiser is that Air Force 1, a few other jets (to hold the limos, etc), and a hundred military-esque folks fly in to MCI and screw up the schedule and then they parade through town shutting down highways and in this case, probably the entire Ward Parkway/55th area. It’s going to shut down the whole area.

All this so Jim Talent can get some money.

    Kelly,

You don’t know what there is to protest?!?

    Are you serious?

    How about:
    • A terribly bungled war in Iraq
    • A terribly unfinished war in Afghanistan
    • A GIANT federal deficit
    • An administration that has allowed torture
    • The debacle in New Orleans

Do you need more reasons to protest the president?

If you do, I’ll be able to give you more.

    Chris:

It sounds like to me you are reading right off of the DNC talking points. How about getting some original points. Let’s not talk about a war in Iraq. At least this President is taking it to the terrorists where as during the Clinton admin. we had the opportunity to prevent Osama Bin Laden and capture him and they let him free. I could go on and on and on. But I would just make you feel bad.

    Kelly,

First off, my supposed “DNC talking points” come from the fact that I actually read the paper and watch the news.
It’s not propaganda – it’s the facts. Do you dispute the points I made? How about this then…

Here’s how the president is “taking it to the terrorists”:

    • There are Al Qaeda members in Iraq – they weren’t there BEFORE the war.

    • Afghanistan is becoming unstable – This quote is from yesterday’s paper:
“The illicit Afghan narcotics trade is taking a sharp turn for the worse despite major efforts by U.S. and Afghan forces over the past year, continuing to fuel an insurgency that is increasingly killing American soldiers and destabilizing the country.” If only we hadn’t sent troops to Iraq – we might have been able to finish the job…

    • Iran is working on a nuclear program – they weren’t BEFORE Bush took office.

    • North Korea already has a nuclear program and they are working on long-range missiles. They were not doing this BEFORE the Iraq war.

    • More acts of terrorism are happening now than before the war. This quote from the St. Louis Post Dispatch in 2003:
“attacks grew to about 655 last year, up from the record of around 175 in 2003″

    That’s right. Terrorism TRIPLED.

Sorry Kelly. We are NOT safer.

Oh…and Bin Laden is STILL ON THE LOOSE.

Thanks for the info. And we may not even have to deal with Free Speech zones at this event! PLEASE NOTE, however: Steve Kraske’s article said the event was Sept 8th, not the 6th, as blog states. Can we get this changed?

Wow. I didn’t know that anyone who believed that old chestnut about Clinton having a chance to get Bin Laden but turning it down knew how to read, much less type.

At least one rightwingnut on our very own local blog! Very Sweet. But RWN think about your lunatic Bush crime family starting WWIII for religion and money. Are you going to kill arabs for oil? Or just sit back and collect your war profits? As far as new talking points just consider today. Bush thinks jews are going to hell. Karl Rove secretly met with Jack Abramoff (a Jew) many times (to get money to win those expensive elections). Just one more TP, the Liberty City Florida terrorist plot was GOVERNMENT SPONSORED TERRORISM from start to finish.
Think about defecting to a reality based community even though a few of us are a bit snarky.

NPR had a story about these “Secret Fundraisers” held by candidates at private homes. Apparently, many other candidates are doing the same thing.

The reason for these is so candidates like Talent can benefit from the Bush Money, but without the messy Photo-Op that turns off the voters. Just hold a invitation- only dinner just for the faithful base, take the money, and then tell the Prez to hit the road before the sun comes up! :)

Talent doesn’t mind taking Bush’s money, but doesn’t really want to be seen with him so Talent can control the spin and the media coverage. You wouldn’t want to hold a mid-day press event and have those pesky citizens and/or media people asking questions about the Iraq War quagmire, would we?
