The same people who are responsible for the museum's addition are planning to build an additional museum at the Mt. Rushmoore monument which will be a white geodesic dome build over Lincoln's head.

Great photo of a terrific building. I was trying to remember the last time I saw a Butler building shaped in the same way as those lovely shimmery glass lenses or when I walked around pole barns massed as artfully as the Bloch Building. Couldn't recall a time since the addition really doesn't look like either, except in the most passing superficial way. Pretty fantastic how a museum patron will be able to walk in, on, and around the new building. The way the building integrates with the newly refubished landscape and plays off the solid, stately N-A building is terrific.

The pictures I have seen of the interior promise an awe-inspiring experience. Looking forward to next June.

Was in town Monday, darn it the museum is closed ! Then I drove around the block and saw these buildings ! What a letdown, their juxtaposition is a mediocre answer to modern architecture. The nighttime picture is great though, unfortunately the effect is gimmicky.
Hopefully the contents and interior layout will redeem it somewhat. What was wrong with the original idea when Nelson built?

Ditto JustCara & MB. I live near the cursed thing and sometimes wish I didn't. It's an eyesore, the construction companies are a nightmare, and the Nelson is a horible neighbor.

Looks great at night and in certain lighting conditions, but 90% of the time looks like a modern day double-wide.

So what? The lights are on. In the day light, when I am most likely to visit or drive by, the contraption looks like a FEMA shed, completely at odds with the august, classical building is parasitically clutches. I'm not agains modern design--I'm against awful modern design. The new building is an eye sore.

I don't have any nighttime photos that are that beautiful, but I do have a Flickr set showing views of the new building and sculpture gallery. Click on my name above to view my gallery, or copy and paste the link below:
