810 Zone expanding to the Plaza

November 15, 2006 |

WHB-AM’s sports bar 810 Zone is adding a second location on the Plaza. No official announcement yet, but they are advertising for management and claiming an early 2007 opening. The former Canyon Cafe space above Barnes & Noble is the likely spot. WHB was courted by the Power & Light District, but like most local businesses they found the rents there to be too outrageous. 810 Zone is run by KC Hopps, the folks behind O’Dowd’s, 75th Street Brewery, Barley’s, and others.

I can confirm this rumor. My friend Adam Bracco who sells ads for WHB-810 says “This rumor is true. I don’t know the exact detail, but receiving discount there on liquor and food will be a plus :O)!!”

When the GranFallon moved into their current location, they were given a contract provision that Highwood would not lease to any other sports bars on the Plazaq. It was quite a controvesy when George Brett’s went in but they claimed they were a restaurant and not a sports bar. I dont know how Highwood will get around this. Isnt the current 810Zone in OP a blatant sports bar?

Are you sure that the site they are looking at is actually a Highwoood Property?
