Parking more important than homes
December 15, 2006 |
City Council candidate Mark Forsythe has an excellent post on the latest development in the East Village/JE Dunn saga. Two days after the City Council gives the final OK for the planned East Village development, news surfaces that its housing has been cut in half to provide parking for a new Federal office building. The East Village is supposed to redevelop the last blighted part of the Downtown Loop into a real neighborhood of housing, shops, offices, etc. Ironically, one of the goals of the now downsized housing component was to provide more affordable housing for working folk being squeezed out of Downtown’s boom.
