Mayor of KC or Mayor of Brookside?

Most of KC’s mayors have come from the traditional Plaza/Brookside/Ward Parkway corridor of power. Emanuel Cleaver was a recent exception. Kay Barnes currently lives in the Northland’s BriarTIF West, but had been near Loose Park for decades when she was first elected.

The geographic distribution of this year’s candidates is typical. One from the Northland, all but three inside the I-435 loop, two Midtowners, and six in the Plaza-Brookside corridor. All but three are in the 4th District. No one from the 1st or 3rd Districts.

    No wonder my grass doesn’t do well. My house is shaded by giant red push pins!

    Well, maybe that says something about the most well-known leaders of those districts. Third district especially.
