Mel Solomon, another Dinosaur Politician
January 21, 2007 |
There have been rumors around Brookside for awhile that City Council candidate Mel Solomon is trash talking his opponents, and recently local blogger Gone Mild caught him in the act.
It sounds like Solomon also dislikes the fact that his opponent Mark Forsythe is using the Interwebs to engage voters. Mel’s opinion notwithstanding, Mark’s blog is an excellent campaign tool that gives voters incredible insight into a candidate’s thinking. It’s an opportunity to learn about the thought behind the brochures, and sadly an opportunity that most candidates are still missing.

Trash talking season here already, it’s like I got my X-mas wish early and everybody decided to actually show the world how nasty they can be!!!!!!! God I love KC politics AND I’m giving good odds on the fact that somebody is going to get punched in the face before this whole thing is over Jackson County Courthouse/Taiwanese Parliament style.
I read this blog on a regular basis, but I do not find age based bigotry acceptable.
Political discourse is one thing, but blatant attacks on an immutable characteristic such as “age” via stereotypes and hearsay
Talk about trash talk
For the love of God I hope you didn’t write that with a straight face Kendall.
I’m pretty sure the Dinosaur reference was related to outdated attitudes and thinking and was not an example of bigotry.
In fact you were the first one to mention age outright.
You’re busted Kendall. Nobody mentioned age. I took it as a reference to attitude.
You trash talk about blogs or a blogger and you’re going to get some heat on the blogs. That’s life in 21st Century politics.
Your candidate should refute these accusations on his own blog. Oh wait. He doesn’t have one. It’s 2007, he’s running for office and doesn’t have a blog. That would make him a what? Oh I don’t know. A dinosaur?
One more thing Kendall. Read the Gottstein -vs- Botello post below this one.
“To me the whole thing is just another example of a dinosaur politician burned by a lack of Internet savvy and struggling to figure out a new medium.”
Where’s your outrage in defending Ms. Gottstein?
The dinosaur reference was about attitude, not age. I also called Beth Gottstein dinosaur, and no one can argue that she’s old.
I’m sure mel was an ass long before he was an old man!
