CAUTION: Election board screws up polling places
February 26, 2007 | 8 Comments
Dan at Gone Mild has done everyone a great service by noticing and explaining how the KC Election Board has screwed up big time. The asshats over there have closed 20% of polling places on the eve a major election, and tomorrow many people will have to vote in a different location.
Even more troubling is that the election board’s own web site still has the outdated information. Read Dan’s instructions carefully to figure out where to vote. If all else fails you can always vote Downtown at election headquarters, 1828 Walnut.
(Note, this only applies to the 2/3 of Kansas Citians in the Jackson County part of the city. If you are in the Clay or Platte County parts of the city you are covered by your county election board, not the city board)

Is it possible that the decision to close polling places was a money saving move recommended by a former auditor?
I’ve searched the city’s website for any such recommendation. Do you have a reference we could read to keep it in context or find out the details?
From the Star article linked on Gone Mild’s post:

Kansas City is removing 41 of the 184 sites, largely for economic reasons.
“This is the first time we have ever had a reduction of this magnitude,” said Sharon Turner Buie, Kansas City election director.
The Kansas City election board sent mailers Saturday announcing the change.
Buie said 35,000 voters will be affected by the change.
“Each voter received a postcard from us telling them where their new polling place is,” Buie said.
Buie cited the higher costs of new voter equipment along with decreasing voter turnout and fewer election judges as reasons for cutting the polling places. She doesn’t expect to add polling places for future elections.
Hah, anything to dig on the Funk, eh, kiki? Good thing he’s probably going to win the election. Then perhaps when things continue on the upswing, the naysayers will realize, hey, we *can* have development without sucking off every developer that rides through town looking for a quick BJ.
Sorry, ryan, but that giant sucking sound you are refering to is all of KC’s recent progress heading right out of town.
So, in other words…you made this up to start rumors. OK, you lost all credibility with me, Kiki. Thanks.
No Marie, I made it up as a joke. Big difference. You should stop taking things people say so seriously. Doubly so anything said by someone named Kiki.
