Vote for Roasterie Coffee at Downtown Grocery
February 23, 2007 |
As you might already know, local grocer Cosentino’s is building a new store Downtown in the Power & Light District. It should be a great addition to the neighborhood and be very similar to their Brookside Market. Unfortunately it sounds like Consentino’s is getting pressure to stock coffee from a national chain, instead of from the local guys at The Roasterie.
The P&L District is already going to be a mess of chain stores with little local flavor - they are even bringing chain barbeque into the heart of KC. So if you’d like to help ensure at least some local coffee flavor in Downtown’s new grocery store, please read the following email from The Roasterie’s Danny O’Neill and email Cosentino’s with your feedback.

Hi everyone. I hope that this finds you happy and healthy; and caffeinatedJ.
I have a big favor to ask of you. One of our customers is building a brand new grocery store downtown (Cosentino’s) and it is going to be awesome. We very much want to be a part of it and our customer is considering us and also a couple of chains. We are in the running but perhaps these out of town chains have tried to convince him that fresh-roasted doesn’t matter, that it’s not important to the people of Kansas City whether or not a company is local or whether his customers really care about The Roasterie or not.
Of course, our 13.5 years of roasting here in Kansas City , of working downtown with hundreds and hundreds of special events over the years, have proven exactly the opposite. The people of Kansas City do care about supporting local brands and The Roasterie brand means a great deal to them.
We love our partnership with our local customers and John is right up there at the top. I’ve asked him if he would mind if some of our friends who live, work or play downtown would send him a message in support of him choosing The Roasterie for his new downtown store. He said he would love it.
So, if you can let John know that The Roasterie is important to you and that you hope he’ll choose us for his new downtown store, that would really mean a great deal to us. His email is:
He’s a great guy and has wonderful stores in the city; he just needs to hear from us to help him make his decision. If you know someone else who might support us, please forward.

Just think how the trickle down effect in Kansas City would work if we purchased goods made in Kansas City. I don’t drink coffee but you would think delivery would be faster and cheaper when made in KC.Remember people who sell to your store also could shop in your store. So think about a car from Claycomo, or Fairfax and keep the Dollars in Kansas City.
I agree with Larry about shopping for KC-made products to keep the profits in the area. However, going with cars made in Claycomo or Fairfax may be stretching it, seeing as those aren’t quality products in the first place, secondly the profits for those all go north, and third, they are already cutting jobs like crazy in those areas. I don’t think Ford or GM really deserve our support, and maybe they can move out and let automakers like Toyota or Nissan that actually have an eye on the future to come in and offer local jobs.
