A local street artist has started a blog chronicling her fight against the proposed ban on panhandlers that would also extend to street performers.
Plaza business owners testified before the City Council’s Planning & Zoning Committe yesterday. The owner of Swirk jewelry claims his employees are virtual hostages, unable to venture out for lunch because of the panhandlers. I’ll call bullshit on that. There are only a handful on the Plaza at any one time, and Plaza security does a pretty good job of keeping any aggressive panhandling in check.

@BlogKC
I agree about the Plaza panhandlers. I work downtown and I don’t feel like a hostage. The yellowjackets passed out pamphlets that said to acknowledge panhandlers, and then say “no.” It works.
I have to go on record as supporting the street artists, too. Things can only get so boring before you just decide to stay inside all day.
I think that street performers are one of the truest and oldest forms of entertainment. What was around before electricity?
