Is “Jeff Roe” now a four-letter word?

A recent post on the Buzz Blog forums indicates that Jeff Roe might have become an issue in the 4th District At-Large race. The letter from the Doug Gamble campaign accuses opponent Beth Gottstein of spreading rumors that Roe is on the Gamble payroll. Considering how the association with Jeff Roe likely tanked Becky Nace’s mayoral campaign, it’s a fairly serious allegation.

BlogKC’s sources say that several council candidates tried to hire Roe earlier in the campaign, but he turned them all down. Also making the allegation less credible is the fact that Gamble campaign manager Diana Kander is a Democrat.

It should also be noted that Gottstein is employing NorthStar Marketing, which is only slightly less slimy than Jeff Roe. Something that leaves us scratching our heads is how she has paid them $5,000 for web services and still only has one-page web site.

Whether either side’s allegation is true, it’s interesting that a behind-the-scenes operative became news in his own right during this election cycle.

For those that don’t know, NorthStar is the company that is working to get John Sharp elected.

At the Brookside parade, Doug Gamble had a bunch of 14 year old girls on his float. It was pretty creepy.

    Chris,
Young people (early 20′s) are supporting Doug in large numbers, you’re right. He had a lot of people walking for him in that parade. What’s more interesting is that despite having registered a spot in the parade, Doug’s opponent and any trace of her supporters were completely absent from the entire parade. Not a good sign when you can’t get anyone to come walk with you on a beautiful spring day.

Gamble has always given off the vibe of a used car salesman. I also can’t help wondering if he got to the table too late to get the Citizens Association endorsement. (I know he entered the campaign late.) I can’t believe for a second that those folks would believe that Gottstein would be more sympathetic to development interests than Gamble.
