Missouri House playing football with Amendment 2
March 28, 2007 | 4 Comments
Kit Wagar of the Star writes about a proposal being rammed through committee that would overturn much of what voters approved in November when Amentment 2 was passed.
Committee chairman Wayne Cooper allowed only 15 minutes of “debate” on the issue before calling for a vote. 4 members walked out in protest, leaving the measure to pass 5 – 0. Another member who opposed the issue was in Kansas City for yesterday’s election. It had been deadlocked 5 – 5.
Cooper was quoted as using his leadership ability.
Up next: the Rules Committee, where the bill may die, because the chairman is a supporter of stem-cell research.

I always vote, but this shit makes me wonder why I bother. Vote for something politicians don’t like? Why, they’ll just tell you no!
“Panel Endorses Stem-Cell Strictures”?
The article should have been more clearly labeled
“Lawmakers Fearful of Science Defy Missouri Voters”
Missourians should be outraged about this.
Of course, about 70% of Kansas Citians couldn’t even be bothered to go vote on who will run their city, so I don’t have much hope that they will challenge these morons.
Walking out in protest is no protest at all. It’s saying yes without going on record as saying yes. Why is it so darn hard for people to say no. If they had stayed and voted it would have been 5-4, still passed, but with at least some dissent.
I agree that the people of Missouri should be outraged. I like ChrisM70’s title. This is a clear breech of trust with the Missouri voters.
