Oops I crapped my pants

March 21, 2007 |

Yesterday the establishment crapped its collective pants after a grass-roots effort used Missouri’s Sunshine Law to free the TIF audit. There was a lot of belly-aching about how TIF is good for the city and the naysayers “just don’t understand.” But if you actually read the criticisms you will see that few people are opposed to incentives in principal, they are just opposed to irresponsible incentives.

The fact of the matter is that the establishment has brought this backlash upon themselves by handing out tax breaks like a drunken sorority girl passing out her MySpace ID at Harpo’s on Saturday night. A little self-restraint and responsible regulation would have prevented this entire mess.

Oh, and thanks to The Star for not mentioning the fact that this whole thing came about because of the blogosphere. Maybe they are a little sensitive that it only tooks us 24 hours to resolve a problem that they had been complaining about for weeks.

I saw Chuck Eddy’s ranting anti-Funk letter. While it made no sense, I wonder if anyone will file a Sunshine Act request for the emails of he and his aide (Harry Ingels)over the last 2-3 days where the TIF Audit and/or Funkhouser were discussed? Those would be public docs as well and may shed light on the whole mess . . .

Perhaps Mr. Eddy doth protest too much!

Nice idea agog, but I have experience with sunshine law requests made of Mr. Ingels for emails. He charged $100 for 50 sheets of paper and was extremely hateful about the whole thing.

Harry can be terrible. Sometimes he thinks he’s the councilman. I understand Cathy Jolly is going to keep him on as her aide.
